Venice Theater in Venice Florida
Located on southwest Florida's beautiful gulf coast, Venice Theatre is the third-largest community
theatre in the United States. It is a non-profit organization that has been providing entertainment, education and
outreach to the local community since 1950 when 40 volunteers banded together as the Venice Little Theatre to produce
the first season of three shows in a converted hangar at the local airport.
From these humble beginnings, when attendance for the entire season was only 1,440, the venue has grown
to 2 stages that attracted 68,000 attendees last year from the metro Sarasota, Osprey and Venice Florida area.. Last year the word “little” was dropped from the name, because board members realized that the organization was not “Little” anymore.
In addition to its shows, Venice Theatre offers a rich educational program providing high-quality theatre training
through top-notch, caring instructors. The theatre today offers summer camps and after-school classes; sponsors the Silver Foxes, a seniors-only performance troupe; and is home to the Theatre for Young People.
Graduates of the theater program are currently enrolled in prestigious theatre schools
such as The New School in New York and University of the Arts in Philadelphia. They are also teachers, medical
students, working actors, theatre technicians and emerging writers. Each of them will tell you that Venice Theatre
camps and classes afforded them some of the best training and yet the most fun they’ve ever had.
The Box Office is open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 10 a.m - 1 p.m. Saturday. It is also open
one hour before all show times. For more information on the Theater, itself, and current shows, call (941) 488-1115
